Based Training Limited staff include Farm Consultants, practical farmers and
full time tutors. All staff have proven practical backgrounds in project
management and business at a number of different levels in both the dairy, sheep
/ beef and agri-business industries. All
of our trainees have an equal opportunity to succeed. The wider coverage enables
Land Based Training Limited to select the right person for the task, land use
analysis, Farm Consultancy, farm set up and project development, stock
management and breeding, teaching or tutoring. Land Based Training Limited is
able to meet the aims and objectives of clients by selectively utilising the
knowledge it has available for best results.

Derek
Priest
In 1997
Derek started tutoring with Land Based Training Limited after teaching at
Wanganui Polytechnic as a Farming Tutor for three years.
Derek
is currently teaching the Mixed Farm Skills courses in Wanganui and
Ruapehu as well and the AgITO Level Four and Production Management
courses.
Derek
has also completed a Bachelor of Agricultural Science and is Land Based
Training’s accredited tutor for the Growsafe agrichemical course.
Derek’s
farming background includes working as a Farm Advisor for MAF, four years
shepherd general, special settlement loan farmed 760 ha hill country

Nicky
manages our Waikato training centre and has been with LBT since 1999. She

Nicky
has a Diploma in Farm Management from Lincoln University as a wealth of
experience from working as a Stock Agent for Wrightson and on a number of dairy farms.
Nicky has also completed her Certificate in Adult Teaching (CAT’s) in November 1999. Nicky is our Head Tutor at our Waikato
training centre.
Nicky
is a keen rugby referee and has refereed in Hong Kong at the
Women’s World Sevens Competition. |

He owns and
develops land close to Feilding and Palmerston North and is farming sheep
and cattle on the land he owns in Manawatu and Southern Hawkes Bay.

Jason
Richards
Jason Richards is
based in Hawkes Bay having shifted there from Palmerston North in 2001 and
is currently teaching the Rural Industries course in Hawkes Bay and the
AgITO NCAL4 course
Jason comes from an
agriculture and horticulture background having been born and bred on a
Dairy Farm in the Manawatu, attending Waikato Polytechnic and Massey
University.
Prior to coming to
Land Based Training Limited Jason was employed by the Manawatu District
Council and after than ran his own horticultural business contracting his
services back to the District Council company and private individuals in
all areas of arbour culture and horticulture.
He has a good sound
knowledge in all areas. |

Ruth
Short
Ruth teaches our
courses in Taranaki for TEC, AgITO and the schools.
A
background in LIC Advisory work, she has a large dairy knowledge as well
as having milked cows for two seasons. Ruth lives in Stratford and has a
small number of acres where she runs her horses. |
