LBT CIVIL Course Details:

Traffic Controllers Course

• 1 day course
• NZTA certified (Transit)
• Unit standards 20877 & 20878
• Covers Local Roads, Low Volume & Level 1 Roads
• Demonstrate knowledge of TTM plans
• Set up worksites according to TTM plans
• How to work safely within protected area
• Minimum number of trainees – 8

STMS Course

• 2 day course
• NZTA certified (Transit)
• Theory aspects of Unit standard 5628
• Demonstrate knowledge of the design of TTM plans
• Audit worksites according to TTM plans
• Work safely within protected areas and traffic safety for plant, vehicles, the public and workers at roadworks sites
• Minimum number of trainees – 6-8

TC & STMS Refresher Courses

• A refresher course is required every 3 years
• TC Retest – half day course
• STMS Retest – one day course
• Minimum number of trainees – 8

Confined Space Entry

• Two day course
• Unit standards 18426 and 17599
• How to plan confined space entry includes identifying and controlling hazards within confined spaces
• Practically plan and enter an actual confined space entry
• Complete a hazard analysis
• Produce the documentation (permit) and test the atmosphere
• Act as a Standby Observer and use confined space PPE
• Minimum number of trainees – 8

Plate Compactors

This is a half day course which covers the following unit standards:

• 6457 - Use generator and compressor for civil construction
• 6467 - Operate a plate compactor on civil construction materials
• 6470 - Operate a handheld pavement breaker

Trainees are required to demonstrate competency in several exercises, both theory and practical to achieve these unit standards.

Minimum number of trainees – 8

Trenching & Shoring:

• Two day course
• Unit standard 1099
• For people who work, or intend to work in plumbing, gasfitting or drainlaying industries
• Determine the position of the trench
• Locate other services, excavate trench to required depth and slope
• Shore a trench and reinstate
• Ensure safety of those working in the trench and members of the public
• Demonstrate knowledge of dewatering process
• Minimum number of trainees - 8
