Some of the students from the Employment Skills course on the Land Based Training stand, discussing the benefits of the course with students from local High Schools from the Central Region who visit the annual Career Expo held in Arena 3, Palmerston North.

Course Content

To give students an introduction to employment skills as well as establishing a future direction in the industry of their choice.

It is an opportunity for trainees to learn job search skills and gain credits towards the National Certificate in Employment Skills.

The course is focused on getting trainees ready for employment including unit standards on:
CV Presentations
Job Search Skills
Mock Interviews
Start Work in a New Workplace
Drugs & Alcohol
Employment Rights
Computers Personal Presentation
First Aid
 
Qualifications
Gain credits towards the National Certificate in Employment Skills
First Aid Certificate
 
Work Experience
Students will be placed under a LBT referred industry, four days per week and work in that environment for the course, also one day in class on theory. This will be co-ordinated by a LBT Field Officer.
 
Course may lead to
Assistance to find a full time employment in a chosen industry. Further education with other Private Training Enterprises (PTE) or  Polytechnics
 
Target Group
Students who seek employment skills and need the motivation to get started. Te Ara Hou target group is mature Maori trainees.
 
Special Characteristics of Training Provider
Land Based Training Limited can offer trainees the ability to gain knowledge and skills in the specific area and have realistic expectations for all the trainees.
Field Trips and Guest Speakers help give the trainees motivation they need to succeed in obtaining full time employment.
 
Course Costs / Entitlements
This course is funded by Skill New Zealand and therefore there is no course costs.
TEC will pay 0.18 cents per kilometre travelled to a maximum of $13.00 per day.
If you are over 18 years of age you will receive the Community Wage, while on the training programme.
16-17 year olds maybe able to apply for the Youth Independent Allowance, for more information on your entitlements contact WINZ on 0800 554 004.

Certain eligibility criteria applies, this would be discussed at your interview
