Land Based Training Star/Gateway Programmes for Secondary Schools

STAR & Gateway:

We cater for a large number of secondary schools throughout the North Island where we operate courses including agriculture, forestry, customer service, and health and safety. These STAR and Gateway courses range from short block courses to full programmes on behalf of High Schools. The courses are a huge success encouraging people into primary industries as well as increasing the curriculum offered through schools.

Accreditation:

Land Based Training is nationally accredited to teach New Zealand Qualifications Authority unit standards of learning in agriculture up to and including level 5 and Level 6 units in production and agribusiness management, also units in the sub-field civil plant operation and management, civil works and services, highway construction and maintenance and occupational health and safety, customer service, road transport, & forestry.

Courses:

Delivers a range of options for your students including courses in agriculture sheep, dairy, cattle, and general, forestry, building and construction.

Quality:

Land Based Training is focused on quality and safety. Our QMS is based on the NZQA Standard, with regular rigorous internal audit and external auditing by our funding partners.

Our Health and Safety Policy is managed by a committee, which meets regularly. Health and Safety is a key course component and staff are active in Land Based Training’s health and safety programme.

Flagship:

Otiwhiti Station Land Based Training Agricultural School near Hunterville was established in 2006, and is successfully training young men and women in practical farm skills to prepare them to enter the sheep and beef farming industry.

Land Based Training Interschool Agricultural Competition:

Offers secondary school students that participate in LBT STAR & Gateway courses the opportunity to display their farming skills and awareness of safety in a competitive environment.
