W, T and R endorsements for special-type vehicles
Definition of a 'road'?
The definition of a road, for the application of transport
laws, is very broad. It includes not only streets and highways, but any place
the public has access to, including bridges, culverts, beaches, riverbeds,
reserve lands, wharfs and road shoulders.
If you drive a special-type vehicle in any of these areas, the rules relating
to registration, licensing and general driver behaviour all apply.
What you need to get an W, T or R endorsement
NOTE:
We must have a minimum of
8 licences to be issued e.g. W, T & R for 3 people or W & T for 4 people
before we can run a course.

What to do on completion of endorsement training and
assessment
Once you have been assessed as being competent you can apply for an W, T or R
endorsement on your licence at the Automobile Association, Vehicle Testing New
Zealand, Vehicle Inspection New Zealand or On Road New Zealand.
You need to bring:
 | a completed DL 19 application form (you can get this from the above
organisations)
 | your current driver licence
 | proof of your name and address, such as a recent bill or an account
statement
 | a certificate showing you have successfully completed an appropriate and
approved course (from LBT)
 | a cheque, cash or EFT-POS card to pay the application fee of $37.20. |
| | | |
An R, T or W endorsement expires on the same date as your driver licence.
Eyesight screening check
You'll have to pass the eyesight screening check or present an eyesight
certificate. Eyesight certificates must be from either a registered medical
practitioner or a registered optometrist, and must not be more than 60 days old.
